Even with the best preparation, you can reach a point where the risk becomes too high; the weather is miserable, thunderstorm danger in high mountains, the snow field too steep or too frozen, the wind too strong for the ridge, the normal knee-high river too tearing or too deep for a crossing. It is not a shame to interrupt a tour, but a sign of reason and self-assessment!
